.sdd.sf

A question about .sdd.sf, is this created by the host on start or on the mount of a datastore or something else, is it persistent on the datastore/devise?

I´ve seen theories about this beeing about locking files but haven´t found anything absolutely sure.

Hey @spiffeluringen,

That file is a System File that is used for SCSI device description and it is used by the ESXi when a volume is formated in VMFS. However I cannot give an answer of what is the purpose of that file.

What I do know is that you should not pay attention to that file and not modify it as it will not block you in any task. There are some weirds issues, but only sometimes where you will not be able to unmount the Datastore because of that file actively blocking the operations, but this will be only used for decommission purposes.
