scratchconfig still needed

Prior to version 4 of ESXi you need to configure the scratchconfig. Is this still recommended or necessary?

I can't find anything in the documentation or in the knowledgebase.

Hi Rob,

According to this article :

"The ScratchConfig.ConfiguredSwapState and ScratchConfig.ConfiguredScratchLocation settings are required for HA in ESXi 3.5. They are not required for HA in ESXi 4.0..."

Hope it helps.

Regards

Franck

I had to use scratch space to load the network driver package onto Dell blades running embedded ESXi, due to insufficient disk space. I also used this for persistent logging.

From this article, it looks to be needed for vihostupdate but not for Update Manager... Also mentioned in the vSphere 4.0 release notes, but not for 4.1...
