root password not working after upgrade to ESX4.0

Dear All,

I have a very strange issue, where I upgraded one of my ESX host from 3.5 U2 to vSphere 4.0. After the upgrade when it got rebooted, the root password did not work at all. I used Hot Update Utility to upgrade this host.

I have even reset the password from the Single user mode, but still it won't take the password. Has anyone faced this thing before, is there any way out of this?

Thank you.

Nick

Hi,

I have experienced that issue, IIRC it was the PAM subsystem pointing to Active Directory first in the auth sequence process.

Do other user passwords work?

Mike
