root credentials in 3.5 esxi

Am able to lo-gin esxi 3.5 host with root credentials through vI client but putty access is denied ssh is running what is the issue?

SSH access is disabled for root account in older versions.

Use the steps in KB http://kb.vmware.com/kb/8375637 to work around this problem
