replication issue

I'm using the replication appliance, and no the full blown SRM product to replicate machines between 2 sites.  I can replicate VM's from site 2 to site 1, but when I try to replicate machines from site 1 to site 2 it fails.  Here's the message:

VR server localhost.localdom has no hosts through which to access destination datastore 'datastore1 datastore' in group 'vm1'.

Has anyone worked through this before?  In a non-SRM environment?

This issue occurs if the hosts are incorrectly tagged as Unsupported by the VRMS appliance. This issue occurs due to a HBR generic error at the ESXi level.

Please go through the following KB for workaround.

Are these instructions still applicable when not using SRM?

yes i guess, the kb talks only about vSphere Replication Management server appliance. If something related to SRM it would have explicitely mentioned.

On the side it does mention SRM where it says the KB applies to:

  • Product(s):
    VMware ESXi
    VMware vCenter Server
    VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager
