replacing a failed disk on vsphere host

Dear All,

I need to clarify some thing here. In environment for two blade servers configured with Raid 1, One balde is running Esxi 4.0, 208167 and other is running Esxi 5.0, 914586. Recently one of the drive in each blade is showing orange light.

I need to know faulty disk can be replaced online in vpshere host ? Any thing special to be taken care off.

Kind Regards,

It depends on whether the disks are hot-pluggable. In case they are - which should be the case for enterprise servers - it's actually the preferred way to replace the disks online. This way the controller knows which disk was replaced and which one is the healthy one, that needs to be synchronized to the new one. Please double-check with the controller/server vendor's documentation. One other hint, if you replace a disk online, make sure you wait at least a minute or two after removing the failed disk and before inserting the new disk, to allow the controller to properly recognize the replacement!

Hello Andre,

Just for your update, it is now done successfully.

Yes, off course the disks were hot-pluggable 'enterprise servers'

Thanks for your response also.
