If the VM need to talk internally you can add all the VM to the same VSS(vswitch 1) in the same VLAN40 port group network2. so the VMs under this VLAN will be able to talk to each other with no issue and configure all the VMs with IPs in VLAN40. no Need for another VSS.

For access to internet, first check with your network admin, if this VLAN has a routing or this VLAN has access to DNS server which provide internet or access to proxy server for internet. he will confirm. or you can also check if this VM are able to ping to your DNS server or proxy servers. if its able to ping then it has access to that network. configure the VMs as you configure physical machine to access internet.

if this VLAN has access to internet, same as you configure the physical server with DNS and proxy connection for internet access do the same configuraiton here also in the virutal machine.

Is that ESXi is a standalone or managed by vcenter.

If it is standalone, connecte ESXi via vsphere client and click on configuraiton tab & Networking. Take a screen shot and post here.

if it is managed by vcenter connecte vcenter via vsphere client and click on the ESXi where the VM are hosted, click on configuraiton tab & Networking. Take a screen shot and post here.

Is this ESXi is installed on the physical computer ?.

the configuration looks good.

Check if VMNIC1 has to be connected to external network(external switch) with access to vlan40 as per the screen shot. If that is connected to external network. configure the vlan40 IPs on the virtual machine same as you configure IP on physical computers. enable RDP on the virtual Machine.

Make sure that there is routing between vlan40 and your IP if your in different vlan than vlan40.

Now try to ping from you local computer to your virtual machine if that works, then you can take RDP to them also.

Put a screen shot of virtual machine IP configuraiton too..

Dharshan thanks for the replies,

There's a small doubt
may be its a silly one too..after applying the IP's from the Vlan 40 how do i make sure Vlan 40 has internet access?
i'm not that good at networking so i don't exactly know how it works...

If i create two more virtual machines and want all these 4 virtual machines to just talk internally do i need to add them in another VSS which is just a internal switch?
Thanks for your patience.

You have got the specific VLAN number from the network team or did you select it just by yourself?
