reclaiming VMFS deleted blocks on thin-provisioned LUNs

Hello,

I tried the KB  2057513 ( Using the esxcli storage vmfs unmap command to reclaim VMFS deleted blocks on thin-provisioned LUNs ... ) in order to test it on my test environment (vsphere6, esxi6.0 on two hosts with common datastores)

I have two datastores (500GB, 6TB, same physical disks) and several thin provisioned VM that I artificially inflate (script copying big files). I delete the big files in my VMs and I run the process to reclaim the free space.

While it goes fairly well on the 500GB volume (less than a minute and some gain if not all that should be possible), the try on the biggest volume runs for hours without any end. Both volumes where created in the same way except for the size and the biggest created first. I checked KB 2048466 for clues but to no avail.

Has someone an idea of what is happening with the biggest volume ? Some kind of size limit ?

Thanks for any tip or documentation.
