rdm occupancy

Hello,

does anybody know if there are best practices about the occupancy of the rdm disks?

I know the threshold alarms in datastores, but I don't know if these applies to rdm disks.

Thanks!

As far as  I can tell  -- RDMs space utilization cannot be monitored from the VC like datastores - since they are directly accessed by the guest - do you have the monitoring enabled at the VM level?

I'm not worried about the monitoring, I just would know if there is any best practice about the occupancy level of the rdm.

Thanks!

No different than any other device in the VM - e.g. its dependent on application, operating system, etc.

So is there no problem to have an rdm near 100% full?

it may/will crash the DB/App using the RDM lun with in the guest OS - it will not affect any other guests - unlike if a datastore were full

helps??

VMware / ESXi doesn't care.

Your application or array might, but that depends on your application and array.
