question about memory

In my virtual infra some of the virtual machines are having too high memory alike 20 GB, 18 GB but they are using not more than 2GB. So do you guys thinks that if i reduce the memory on these virtual machines will have a good impact on hosts.

I have no reservation and resource pools so i am having this view that even if some virtual machines are having too high memory esx can handle the memory well with ballooning etc and reducing will not impact much etc.

any suggesiton

You should size memory on your VMs accordingly. Start small and add more memory if required. If you have 20GB of memory on VMs which actively use only 2GB, then you definitely need to reduce the amount of configured memory.

Look at VM memory statistics, such as amount of Consumed and Active memory.
