open RDM device with vix DISKLIB fails

i am trying to open a RDM device with VIX DISKLIB and get an error for both virtual RDM and physical RDM.

did anybody encountered this error before?

the error is:

VixDiskLibGenericWarn: VmfsExtentOpen: Vmfs not supported on this product.

DISKLIB-LINK :"/vmfs/volumes/512e0bc2-0d1c194b-6aec-00221962ef56/abc/abc_2.vmdk" : failed to open (The specified feature is

not supported by this version). 

DISKLIB-CHAIN :

"/vmfs/volumes/512e0bc2-0d1c194b-6aec-00221962ef56/abc/abc_2.vmdk" : failed to open (The specified feature is

not supported by this version).

DISKLIB-LIB : Failed to open

'/vmfs/volumes/512e0bc2-0d1c194b-6aec-00221962ef56/abc/abc_2.vmdk' with flags 0xa The

specified feature is not supported by this version (24).

errno=2

OSOpenDevice could not open device path = /vmfs/volumes/512e0bc2-0d1c194b-6aec-00221962ef56/abc/abc_2.vmdk vixErrorMsg = The specified

feature is not supported by this version, vixErrorCode = 16013, vixRawError = 0x1800003e8d

It seems like the virtual machine is unable to open a referenced virtual machine disk file.
