named pipe over serial port and vmotion

Hi, our customer sended a request to me>

Is it possible to virtualize 2 servers which are using serial port for application cluster? [it would be implemented on ESXi 4.1]

I started to sneek for a solution, and revealed 2 solutions

use named pipe over serial port

use Virtual Serial Port Concentrator

my question>

is named pipe over serial port vmotion aware?

Welcome to the community.

Those solution are vMotion aware.

But if you use a physical device this must be connected somewhere, and if you use a host port, with will be un-avaible in case of host failure.

thanks Andre,

both servers will be virtual, sitting on different ESXi nodes (provide app. availability), of course also in HA cluster.

I just imagine how to setup serial port - both servers are server and client concurrently. So should I setup 2 named pipes with opposite direction?

I haven't verify, but a serial connection must be bi-directorional.

So a single "link" can be enough. But this depends also on how your application talk between them.

To setup the named pipe:
