nable to install VMWARE_TOOLS 12.x to any Linux VMW

I have the follwining VMs in my vsphere 8.x ESXIs

Ubuntu 20 11360
vCenter Server 12325
Ubuntu 20 11360
ESET ERA 11269

I started to try to update the 2 ubuntus to the lastet 12.x version.

But even after 8h checking all kinds of pages and Chat GPT I am not able to get beyond 11360

Please help!

Also I want to mention that its totally bad that vmware is not hosting the lated files.

Actually, as far as I know, the use of the so-called "open-vm-tools" has been foreseen for a long time now in combination with most widespread Linux distributions which also takes care of the distribution of necessary update according to their own policies.

Sure its easyer for the user to get it from the distributions directly instead of installing from image.

But that does not really help when there are mayor holes.

Another problem I just saw is that the version are totally mixed up!

So this is actually current:

So again, how can I have the the version Ubuntu 20 11360 Which VMWARe says is actuall from 2021

Sorry but I don't understand, reasonably you are using the version of the tool "open-vm-tools" at the origin part of the installation of your Linux distribution or that resulting from subsequent updates released over time. There are those who still use dated distributions which did not include them and therefore had to manually install the compatible ones released by VMware.

It seems to me that the notes included in the bulletin adequately clarify the point about the different versions and who releases them.
