can i use more than one vmkernel interface for iscsi similar to vmotion in esxi 5? or does iscsi traffic only pass through one nic a a time?

Actually it's a best practice to use multiple VMKernel ports/uplinks for iSCSI traffic. Either configure multiple vSwitches with a single VMKernel port group and a single uplink or one vSwitch with multiple VMKernel port groups and multiple uplinks. In case of using a single vSwitch, only 1 uplink must be used on each port group, the other's have to be moved down to Unused.

Depending on your Storage system you may need to configure multiple VLANs (IP ranges) for the different VMKernel port groups.

You can created Mutiple iSCSI Vmkernel port on a single vSwitch with Multiple uplinks,

- Make sure you are using only one for uplink for one VMkernel port group and other are moved to standby

- make sure iSCSI Initiator is configured to use Multiple VMKics

The unused adaters have to be moved to "Unused Adapters" in order to be able to assign the vmk's to the iSCSI adapter.
