missing nics during new install

i dont know why i am having so much drama with esxi5...here goes.

i had to reformat and install esxi5 fresh and it was working fine before with a builtin RLT8168 onboard NIC + a PCIe TPLink-3468 which is also a RTL8168B gigabit.

now the funny part is the onboard and the external pcie worked fine until i formatted and added a new one (wanting to make 3 nics).  was hoping to start a fresh new install so i can begine my esxi5 adventure.

now none of the pcie cards are recognized. even if its just one card esxi doesnt see it.

Is it possible that your bios disables the onbboard nic once it sees the pcie nic and perhaps esxi5 doesnt have the drivers for the pcie nic? what kind of pcie card is it? Is it in the VMware HCL for ESXi5?

Just so I understand fully:

You had ESXi 5 running with one onboard NIC and one offboard NIC.

You then added another NIC and did a reinstall.

Now you can only access the onboard NIC

Is that exactly what happened?

Please could you try booting this system off a Linux live distro eg "System Rescue CD" and see if lspci shows all the NICs.

Any BIOS settings changed?

Cheers

Jon

no the bios isnt disabling although i did think about that.

like i said it was working fine right before i formatted and install the third nic.

right now only the onboard is working.

the external are both rtl8168b cards.

gerdesj; yes. dont have a linux live cd.

I FIXED IT.  headed over to asus and found a new bios from like 3 days ago. flashed it and left the bios settings as they are... management console and network adaptors show correct 3 adaptors.

that was 3 hours work i could have done!

and frankly i dont know what the problem was!
