migrate vsphere 5.0i to vsphere 6 with dswitch

I cant do a straight migration I get this error "Changing the network and host of the virtual machine during motion is not supported on the "source" host.

What is the solution? Should I create a standard switch with the same name as the switch on the original host, migrate, then move the VM to the dswitch network?

Thank you

That's right, you got to have same name network port group on same kind of switch across both the hosts since you are try to migrate a VM from 5.x host to 6.0 host.

in your case as you have source host 5.x where your original VM is connected to standard switch, please have same name port group ready on standard switch on your esxi 6 host too, do the VM migration and then move it to DVSwtich that you have there.

if you had source and destination hosts both with 6.0 version then you could have done following without any hassle

vMotion Migrate VM from source host(& Network) to destination host(& Network)

Standard Switch to Standard Switch

Standard Switch to DVSwtich

DVSwitch to DVSwitch

I recreated the switch vSwitch01 and Port Group VMNet01, I now get this "The object or item referred to cannot be found."

I refreshed everything and got "not allowed in the current state"

I shut it down and got "A specific Paramter was not correct: path"

It really shouldn't be this hard. LOL

It was storage issue. Recreating the network conditions works.

Thanks.
