migrate / copy from host 2 host

Hi All,

I have 2 host(esx 4.1 standard edition) and  1 vcenter.Eash host has 2 nic giga . Each nic from the host is  connected to datacenter vlan.

Is it possible to the 2nd nic from each host connected directly to one another and then using vcenter to migrate/copy vm without

going  through the datacenter vlan? Currently migrate/ copy using the 1st nic  is very slow, so I hope using the 2nd nic can speed things up.

So in short I am try to move VMs from 1 host to another host using the 2nd nic on each host, connected directly to one another .

If its possible, hope someonce can point me to the right direction.

Thanks in advance.

you just need to setup the 2nd nic as a vmkernel switch with vmotion enabled. then you could try to do a storage vmotion and see if things speed up. in fact if you're doing a migrate-hot aka vmotion it will be fast as it is not moving the storage data but merely repointing the VM to another host.

Thanks for reply, but I am using standard edition, so no vmotion feature availabe and I am not using any shared storage,

thats why i have to me moving the VMs around the 2 esx hosts from time 2 time.
