esxi5 623860 "free"
dell poweredge 1950 2x intel 5130 12GB RAM 750GB sata LSI RAID
wierd situation has cropped up, using this server in a home test lab and pulling in some VMs from other guys working with.
When i copy over a machine from their environment (either vmware fusion, workstation, or server) the autostart machines quit starting at boot. when it happened other day thought the install was borked so i did a "reset default settings" from the console and then set it back up again and it would autoboot. then we copied a machine over via databrowser and rebooted...machines didnt boot again. so i got out a different 2GB usb stick, reloaded esxi5 again to that one and machines working fine. early this AM copy another small nix VM over and after a reboot nothing would autostart AGAIN. that new machine was not even set to boot at all.
looking at the EVENTS tab in vsphere client after freshboot show only firewall services starting and that host agent has started...im not seeing any errors to indicate something failing.
machines are definately set to startup. i can manually start them fine after boot as well. im sure if i reset to default and reset networking and then add all to inventory again it will work ok, but its really annoying that each time we pull a new one in this occurs. at work we are still migrating off 4.1 and have never had this issue when migrating VMs (though its on shared datastores, NFS, etc so the actual data isnt moving and its all been creating in esxi not one of its cousins)
i cant seem to find anything online about this, everything reference the gui autboot which you can see the attached/embeded pic appears to be set ok.
running chkconfig -l from SSH shows me the daemons, not sure which relates to autostart?
any thoughts?
thanks,
