after installing ESXi5.5 update 1, my system seems to be in a perpetual loop. it goes through the install process, then it leaves me at the 60 day trial screen and calls for a reboot. after the reboot, it goes through the install process again.
upon reboot, there is a screen that flashes by quickly with color and two lines of information. Then it goes to another screen with "enter to boot" in the lower left corner and a 5 second count down timer and a Shift+o in the lower right corner. If i do nothing, it proceeds with a restart of the system and falls back into install mode. IF i catch it quickly enough, i can do the Shift+o and it drops me at a screen prompt. there is a command at that prompt which i suspect is the root of my reinstall. if i delete this command manually, then the system boots normally and I am able to get into the product to change IP address, passwords etc.
How can i get rid of that command that seems to be embedded into the boot cycle so it will just boot into the system?
Have you tried disconnecting or removing the media which you are using to install when you reboot the box?

yes, system didnt come with a built in cd so I used a usb dvd to load the software. the dvd drive was disconnected and it still is doing the same thing.
To remove the cache involvement, I can suggest to remove the memory modules and reinsert them again and try it out. Or go for a full cold down shutdown and start the system
It seems for some strange reason, the boot is still pointing to the installation boot record.
It was suggested elsewhere that since i had not done anyting but install, i should try the installation again. I did this, and watched very carefully each of the stop points. I think i screwed up the first time on the screen that said to "Remove the installtion media before reboot". I must have missed that statement and didnt remove the dvd until a later point in time. After going through the installation process and rebooting AFTER I removed the media, it booted to the main screen. On a side note, where the screen comes up to allow some intervention and has the Shift+o in the lower right corner, there is now a line for "shift+r.to enter recovery mode"
So it seems to be entering the area that allows you to go in via F2 and change some settings. Looks like its good now.
Thanks for your responses. I consider this solved.

Yes the option Shift +O will be present during every boot. This is to facilitate troubleshooting any boot time issues or to configure the box to boot with user set advanced settings...
