is it possible to run the download esxi vm from workstation?

hi all,

i have one of my san volume got full, and unfortunately the two main services running on it.  one is the virtual center and the other is the main sql of the company.  so both can't run at the same, i turn off virtual center for now.  i downloaded the VC using the browser pointing to the esx on my workstation and i'm trying to run it.  somehow workstation is complaining that the drive-flat is not a disk.

what should i do?  did anyone did this before?

Yes you can, but use Vmware convert tool or just easy copy to the workstation but use version 8.

- Download vConverter Standalone and install it on your Wintendo workstation

- Start converter and select Convert machine.

- Select Virtual Infrastructure virtual machine, and enter login credentials for your ESXi host

- Select the VM

- Select VMware Workstation  or other Vmware virtual machine as destination

- Enter an UNC path of a share on your workstation...

- Go!

somehow workstation is complaining that the drive-flat is not a disk.

A virtual disk on an ESXi host consists of two files (although only one is shown in the datastore browser), the header/descriptor .vmdk file (<vmname>.vmdk) and the data .vmdk file (either ...-flat.vmdk or ...-delta.vmdk). The .vmdk file that needs to be referenced in the VM's configuration file (.vmx) is the header .vmdk file!
