installing vmware tools on win 2008 doesnt change display or adapter?

using vsphere5, we converted some physical win 2008 R2 machines to virtual.  The screen and mouse are unsuably slow via console, but somewhat better using RDC.

We tried installing the tools via guest->install/update vmware tools.

This popsup an icon to run the tools installer, which we do then reboot.

however, the screen and vga adapter are still generic, and unusably slow (wait about 20s for the cursor to move).

In programs, we see a new menu item for vmware tools stats.

Is this correct that the screen and display adpater are not changed?

Thanks!

you may also want to use the WDDM driver.  I may provide a better user expience when logged into the guest console
