init id x respawning too fast - disabling in 5 minutes.

Hi All, I am so so upset after I have spent hours and days on resolving the issue with InstallShield unable to run in graphical mode on my Redhat 5 update 4 64-bit machine (vmware guest). It turned out that I have to uninstall the libXp and libXmu 64-bit rpms and reinstall it with 32-bit ones. Which seems to resolve that problem. After I rebooted my Redhat machine, it failed with "init id x respawning too fast - disabling in 5 minutes.". Can't do much about this screen.

I am planning to boot up with my Redhat installation CD and hoping that it could recover this issue. I can't seem to be able to get it boot up from either ISO or installation CD when I power on my virtual guest. It keeps booting from the HD. Is there a way force it to boot up from my CDROM device at the power-on time?

Or someone knows how to resolve the error "init id x respawning too fast - disabling in 5 minutes."?

Please advise. Many thanks.

David.

To boot from CD, edit the advanced settings and intriduce a boot delay of 5000. This will give you 5 seconds at powerup to click in the console screen and hit ESX to bring up boot menu...you can then edit the CDROM settings to have it conencted and then select CDROm in the boot menu and you should be good to go.

Where would be the Advanced Setting located? I have been looking for that option under Virtual Machine summary page.

I have tried to reassign the CDROM setting to boot from a device instead of ISO. Still no go.

You system start in graphic mode?

In this case the problem could be the X server.

Start with init 1 (you can pass the single or 1 parameter to grub) and disable the service that does not work.

I am able to sign in non-graphic mode. The graphic desktop management component got uninstalled when I uninstalled the libXp and libXmu 64-bit rpms. It seems to be strange that Xorg server component also get removed and did not reinstall when I reinstalled the 32-bit rpms for libXp and libXmu. It messed up my system. Now, I have a big challenge to get Xorg server to reinstall again usign yum or rpm command as it has to many dependencies.

Do you or anyknow what is a better way to install Xorg server rpm file with automatic resolve the dependencies?

Thanks.

Install with yum kde or gnome base package and other package will be collected.
