iSCSI HBA NIC teaming on vSS Best Practice?

Hello all,

Just curious when you have two iSCSI HBA's not using VMwares iSCSI Software initiator do you still need to make sure the following configs are in place?:

VMK1 - iSCSI0 - VMNIC1 -  Active

                         VMNIC2 -  Not used

VMK2 - ISCSI1 - VMNIC2 - Active

                         VMNIC1 - Not used

Or can you just leave them as Active/Active with Orig Port ID?

There is lots of info on what to do with the software iSCSI initator but what about when you have HBA's?

For dependent iSCSI HBAs the configuration is similar to Software iSCSI. A 1:1 relationship between vmk and vmnic is required.

So you should have the first setup and keep only 1 nic active and the other unused then correct?

Sorry quick question

How would you bind the VMK to a HBA though?  for instance if you have vmhba1 and vmhba2 would you create two vmk ports in a vSwitch and bind them to a nic?  the nic isn't available as an option I don't think as it sees it as a HBA?

NM hard brain fart,  if it's an HBA it has no tie in with the VMK ports.  My bad.  Thanks again,
