iSCSI Datastore problems

Hi there,

I am running 3 esxi 4.1 hosts - two of them are capable connection to 6 iSCSI targets on a DELL MD3200i, but the third one has severe problems.

I can see the devices, multipathing seems to work correctly - but I am not able to add the devices as new datastores. In the vSphere Client, all the iSCSI devices list the correct partition and sizing.

All three hosts are configured identically - I've double checked all settings.

I've scanned all HBA's more than once, but the problem still exists. Another strange thing is that scanning HBAs takes very long (approx. 5 minutes).

Hardware is: DELL R310, 4xGBit onboard, 4xGBit as PCIe addon card. iSCSI runs on 4 GBit NICs. iSCSI targets are on a DELL MD3200i (latest firmware).

Any help would be appreciated!

regards,

Alex

Found the solution by myself:

I've configured the storage array NICs to use jumbo frames and by mistake, I've configured the vmknic to use these jumbo frames, too - but forgot to make the setting to the vSwitch ...

A closer look to the storage array gave me the right hint: The iSCSI sessions and connections terminated unexpectedly.
