There are built-in tools such vCenter performance, esxtop, vscsistats, top and as such and also 3rd party tools(vKernel, Solarwinds, Quests, etc) and tools from VMware (vCOPS) as well. It basically depends on the level of monitoring & reporting you want for your virtual environment.
