Hello Gents,
I'm new in VMware ESXi 5, and I want to know how to increase the amount of memory for host system ?
I saw in Configuration menu of the host, that my ESXi host has only 77,3 MB. I think that it is wrong, it is too little amount of memory dedicated to host system. There isn't a button (Properties)from I could modify the amount of memory host system.
Please, be so kind, help me !
Many thanks in advance !
Welcome to the Community,
where do you see this amount of memory?
The total amount of memory installed in the host can be seen in the Summary tab (Resources) with the host is selected in the inventory.

Hi,
Thank you very much Andre', for your prompt and helpful answer.
I close all my virtual machines, I reboot the ESXi and I checked in Summary tab (as you told me, from Inventory - Host), and now I have another image in terms of memory resources, more precisely 1044 MB RAM dedicated for ESXi.
Is it enough ? I say it's my home lab (a computer with 16 GB with 6-7 virtual machines, 5 win srv, 2 linux, just for experience, but I virtualized the entire field of home.
Sorry for my poor english, sorry for my poor it knowledges, I'm new in vmware.
Thank you very much !
Alexandru
For an ESXi host you should configure at least 2GB. If you want to add this host to a vCenter Server, the minimum is ~2.5GB. In my lab (also 16GB in the PC) I run the ESXi hosts with 4GB which works without issues, even with running nested VMs on the virtual ESXi hosts for vMotion and other tests.

Thank you very much Andre',
Normal, the following question, is it possible to increase the amount of memory for host system from vSphere client ?
Please, help me.
I think I misunderstood your lab. What I though was that you run the ESXi hosts as virtual machines!?
That's what I am doing. I run a complete vSphere environment virtualized in VMware Workstation (you can do the same with ESXi as the physical host OS).

Hi,
Although I said I was a beginner in vmware esxi, I tried to be as clear.
I have a computer with 16 gb of ram which is installed with ESXi 5. On ESXi 5 there are 4 virtual machines (Win) and 2 (Linux).
I'm looking to change how to increase the memory capacity allocated to host (ESXi).
From Inventory (select host) - Configuration - Memory , I see Memory Physical (Total - 16181.3 MB, System - 77.3 MB, Virtual Machines - 16104 MB)
As you told me, to check in Summary tab - Resources, the memory (maybe dedicated to host), without other virtual machines started is 1044 MB.
1) So eventually, my host has 77 MB or 1044 MB ?
1) The question persists, how can I increase the memory dedicated to host (77 or 1044 MB) to 2 GB ?
Thank you friend(s) !
