how to import large 2gbsparse vmdk to esxi 5

I want to import my old vmdk files from usb disk to new vsphere infrastructure.

I copied all vmdk files to datastore in vshpere and convert small vmdk files to thick disk with "vmkfstool -i" command. When i try to convert large vmdk files get an error message "Reached the host's limit for open files (40)"

I changed the limit with "ulimit -n 1000" command but error message changed to "Segmentation Fault"

How can i import this vmdk files to esxi 5?

Thanks,

Kursad

Hi,

have you tried with the converter?

Directly from your pc to the vSphere.

Please go through the below KB and i hope it gives you some idea to copy the virtual disk.

what do you mean with "large" ? - how many 2gb slices to you have ?

You could use vmware-vdiskmanager on Workstation to convert to Esxicompatible format if vmkfstools -i fails

I do not support Workstation 16 at this time ...

Yes, i have started the converter today but it seems takes a long time.

Are there any fast ways to convert? I copied all files to datastore before.

Thanks,

Kursad

I have 257 files with one of three vmdk disks. VMDK total size is 512 GB.

Thank you all. I used vmware converter for this issue.
