hardware monitoring (arcconf) fails after some time

I monitor the status of all logical drives on one of our servers usinf remote arcconf (adaptec controller). All works fine for some time. After a few days the controller can't be monitored anymore using arcconf. No data is returned.

Once restarting sfcbd-watchdog (/etc/init.d/sfcbd-watchdog restart) helped. But the last two times a restart isn't possible with the following message:

/etc/init.d/sfcbd-watchdog stop

Getting Exclusive access, please wait...

Exclusive access granted.

sfcbd cannot be stopped, please try again.

I have to reboot the complete host to get the monitoring working again.

Any idea? Which log should I check?

Thanks

Robert

Could you check and post on here the /var/log/syslog.log

/var/log/hostd.log and /var/log/vmkernel.log might also be useful.

Thanks

Hi,

I have all three logs attached.

Relevant might be: "User: 3816: wantCoreDump:sfcb-adaptec_st signal:6 exitCode:0 coredump:disabled" in the vmkernel.log

In the syslog.log my attempts to restart the sfcb can be seen.

Thanks

Robert

Hello.

I have a similar problem with the asr-8405. Is there a solution?

Hi,

ASR71605E and ESXi 5.5

same Problem here, i have to restart CIM Server Service to get fresh data, but perfoming actions on Maxview is like Lottery.

Restarting the Server is also a Lottery, because in most cases ther are no disks after an reboot.

You have to do a complete Power Cycle to get the disks back (Raid and RAW as well).

Same shit on esxi 5 and 6.

Sometimes help 'services.sh restart' but sometimes process sfcbd-watchdog is locked and no possibility to do anything - only restart of esxi helps (like MS windows).
