getting error while adding vGPU (shared PCI device) , error message: VVTD (Intel Virtualization Technology for Directed I/O) is not supported on a virtual machine with vGPU device

Hi all,

I'm facing an issue, I always get the error message "VVTD (Intel Virtualization Technology for Directed I/O) is not supported on a virtual machine with vGPU device" when I try to add shared PCI device (vGPU)

The ESXi host is HP ProLiant DL380 Gen10, with 2 Intel(R) Xeon(R) Gold 5220 CPU @ 2.20GHz, and NVIDIA Tesla P40 (attached the output of nvidia-smi -q command). And it’s running VMware ESXi, 6.7.0, 15160138.

For BIOS I am using “Virtualization - Max Performance” workload profiles in BIOS. (I’ve double checked Intel VT, VT-d and SR-IOV are all enabled)

thanks a lot.

Cheers,

Visual

BTW,

the profile “Virtualization – Max Performance“. When choosing this workload profile, the following options are set automatically:

  • SR-IOV -> enabled
  • VT-D -> enabled
  • VT-x -> enabled
  • Power Regulator -> Static High Performance
  • Minimum Processor Idle Power Core C-state -> No C-states
  • Minimum Processor Idle Power Package C-state -> No C-states
  • Energy Performance BIAS -> Max Performance
  • Collaborative Power Control -> Disabled
  • Intel DMI Link Frequency -> Auto
  • Intel Turbo Boost Technology -> Enabled
  • NUMA Group Size Optimization -> Clustered
  • UPI Link Power Management -> Disabled
  • Sub-NUMA Clustering -> Enabled
  • Energy-Efficient Turbo -> Disabled
  • Uncore Frequency Shifting -> Max
  • Channel Interleaving -> Enabled

thanks.
