getting SMART data from disks behind different RAID controllers on esxi

How can I get SMART data for the disks that are under RAID controller on esxi 6.5 or higher

I tried

esxcli storage core device smart get -d naa.6c81f660f18d100021b289ce0c3cf070:1

Got

Error getting Smart Parameters: Unable to find the device

I installed smartmontools and tried

       smartctl --scan

but got
      Segmentation fault

Do smartmontools work on esxi 6.5 or higher.

If not how can I access SMART parameters for the disks under a RAID controller.

Thank you

Hello.

I can't find official information that the smartmontools utility works on VMware vSphere (ESXi).

Some server manufacturers provide utilities to manage and monitor their disk controllers.

Most likely you don't.  if they are controlled by an array, then most likely you do not have direct access to the disks but only the shares they provide.  VMware docs state it is for   LOCAL  disks.  Yet VMware support will not tell you.
