I need some help with creating images. I thought this would be possible by connecting to iso files but this options seems to be missing. So i search through the searchengines and i found that poeple upload isofile to their datastore. is that correct?
If so, i cannot find a datastore option in my installation ; installed free hpervisor 5 on a mirrord partition.
Thanks in advance.
Using a datastore ISO
1) Start the vSphere client, on the host's summary page right click on the datastore and select Browse Datastore.
2) Once you have the Browse Datastore window open you can copy the ISO image to your datastore.
3) Edit the VM, select the CD, choose the datastore option and find your ISO image. Remember to check the option "Connect at power on".
4) Start up the VM and boot from the ISO image.
Using a client ISO file
1) Set the VM to use the Client Device CD option and power on the VM.
2) Open the console for the VM (assuming you have no guest OS installed, you'll get to an error that states that no OS is installed).
3) Click the CD icon and choose to connect to a local ISO image (you can also choose the local CD device on your management PC).
4) Click on the VM's console window to make it active, and press any key. You should start to boot from the ISO image.
Many thanks for the reply.
I noticed that i cant install a vm because of a lack of diskspace. Although the disk is 140 gb, there is only 26 gb free. The rest is provisioned.
Why is it provisioned and what should i do too resolve this?

Please provides some details about your current setup. Open the datastore browser for the 140GB datastore to see whether there are files or folders. If you are unsure about the contents, post a screen shot.

So you don't have the virtual machine listed in inventory on your host, but the files are in the datastore. A few options
1) Delete the entire folder with the datastore browser
2) Right click on the VMX file and select add to inventory. After you've gone through the add to inventory wizard you can power on the VM to see what it is.
When you create a VM you have 3 disk options on the Create A Disk screen. If you select the Thin Provision option the VM only takes the disk space on the datastore that it actually uses (i.e. it starts with a size near 0 and grows as you add files). This option may allow you to create another VM with the space you have until you can figure out what to do with the other VM.
Many thanks for the advice. I added the machine into the datastore.
Am curious how it got there.
