flat.vmdk and delta.vmdk after repaire. How to mount to VM Workstation.

Hello

I have ESXi 5 on my server

After HDD crashed, specialists restored 4 files with data.

2003_1.vmdk (100% restored) 1Kb

2003_1-flat.vmdk (begining of file is fine, some corrupted sectors in middle) 1Tb

2003_1-000009.vmdk (100% restored) 1Kb

2003_1-000009-delta.vmdk (100% restored) 134Gb \\data i need to recover

links in descriptor files are correct

files were restored to NTFS disk

if I link files to vmware workstation vm, it doesnt start

Vmware workstation crashes with error "d\:...backmap.cpp..."

if i map vmdk file to host, it crashes with the same error.

what can I do to mount these files? and to get data from delta.vmdk?

Hi HarDar and welcome to the forums!

That's a bad place to be especially if sectors are missing from the middle of the parent disk, i.e. the 1TB vmdk. It is likely this is going to be a show stopper but worth a try.

Can you do a favour and post 2003_1.vmdk and 2003_1-000009.vmdk? This will help to see if the snapshot chain is intact for these disks though you mention that you have already done this - cannot hurt to reconfirm.

Sorry to do this but also just to confirm when you tried linking the files to VMware Workstation you only used the one called 2003_1-000009.vmdk? It is likely that VMware Workstation maybe confused about the layout of these disks especially with snapshots however worth a shot. Your better option is to get the files onto an ESXi host and then attach the disk to another VM - again only attaching the child not the parent disk.

Kind regards.

Provided your VMDK files have been restored properly without corruption, install the FULL version of VMtools from ESXi.

This will help your VM operate with all products from VMware like Workstation. Hope that helps!
