esxi 6 & usb 3 hdd

As you can see from the command output below, my esxi server detects two usb disks. The western digital is usb2 and the verbatim a usb3.

[root@esxi:~] lsusb

Bus 002 Device 004: ID 18a5:0237 Verbatim, Ltd Portable Harddrive (500 GB)

Bus 002 Device 003: ID 1058:070a Western Digital Technologies, Inc. My Passport Essential SE, My Passport for Mac (WDBAAB)

Yet when I try to attach these disks on a virtual machine, only one of them appears. (you can ignore the broadcom)

Any ideas why?

Thanks

I'm I the only one experiencing this issue?

Have you tried to swap the usb drives? Just to double check that the ESXi detects both drives fine...

You mean swap them on the usb ports? I tried that. But in any case, esxi detects them both.

This KB article describes the issue perfectly.

VMware KB: Unable to add a USB device to a virtual machine

The solution is not working though.

Hi NucleusVM,

I have exactly the same USB HDD (18a5:0237 Verbatim, Ltd Portable Harddrive (500 GB)) connected to ESXi 5.5 (Update 2) and I suffer with exactly the same problem as you 😞

I've tried a lot of things that I found in the internet but nothing helps. Any idea anyone? Isn't this particular USB HDD compatible with ESXi? Any hints anyone?

BR, Kulich78
