esxi 5, s.v00 fatal error 8

well this is a doozy.

my esxi version 5 server has been running for 350 days without me getting near it.

today, out of the blue and without warning the HD light came on horribly.

i plugged in a monitor and rebooted.

and this error shows itself to me

Error Loading /s.v00 Fatal Error: 8 (Device Error)

talk about unexpected.

of course my my virtual machines that are on it are now dead.

is there a solution or a re-install of esxi is necessary???

There are multiple thread with the same issue. And unfortunately you have to rebuild your esxi server. That is the only resolution.

VMware KB: ESXi fails to boot with error: Error Loading /s.v00 Fatal Error: 8 (Device Error)

Talk about how sad this is. Even more disturbing is you pointing out the fact that there's more of this problem circulating...

What is the cause though?

Well thats an technical thing and can corrupt or stop responding and unmanageable too.

so cant blame it . Coz can be many like missing files unsupported or corrupted device and in some case the old firmware is the reason too. as you stated its not rebooted from around 1 year almost so probably old firmware can be the reason too.

The fact that it's not rebooted or shutdown in 1 year is something to brag about. Also, the server has no Internet access... So it has no ways of getting files in and out.  How could a firmware corrupt as you say?

I tend to point my hand at my cheapo hard drives I believe that may be it.
