esxconsole.vmdk

Just curious, but since your ESX console is installed as a virtual disk, can you add that to an existing server view and connect to your console through Vcenter or VSphere?

Not possible as far as I know. The esxconsole.vmdk is mounted at boot time as part of the Service Console coming up (it's a VM as you stated). There are no VMX files exposed for the esxconsole Virtual Machine that you can point to to add it to your inventory.

I have not tried, but you could theoretically create a new vm and elect to use the existing virtual disk.

It doesn't seem possible since their would be a lock on the VMDK by the Service Console VM at boot.

makes sense, I just noticed that the other day and was curious. I think I will not try it, I would hate to screw up my service console.

There are some a ways to copy, move, change the vmdk file. See for example:

But all are unsopported.
