error logging into vsphere client with domain credentials

I have an esxi 5.5 host managed by 5.5 vcenter.

I need to allow a domain user to be a power user on the host, but have no access to the other hosts managed by the vcenter, so I added their domain account to the Permissions tab on the host as a Power User.

I want him to log directly into the host using the Vsphere client and not log into Vcenter at all.

However, when he does tries to log into the host using the hostname, he gets the error:

‘cannot complete login due to an incorrect username or password’

I added myself to the host as a power user and I get the same error

I added the host to my AD domain, added an entry in my DNS, plus I added a Domain suffix to the host.

No change.

I can log in as root to the host via the vsphere client.

What am I missing in this web of permissions?

Thx

I had already joined the host to the domain and adding the user directly did not work.

I finally called into Vmware and the support tech had issues doing this as well.  He finally created a Role Group  on the host via the Vsphere Client that contained the options I needed for this user and that worked.

Did you set the power user rights directly on the host or you did this on vCenter?

Maybe this helps:

join your host in to the your domain first .

then via logging in to the host directly you can add the user form your AD users and group.

that will help you out.
