When is .dvs Data folder in ESXi 5 DataStore ? And what is the use of it?

In case if we have dvSwitch in our virtual infrastructure environment and we have VM’s configured to use dvSwitch instead of Standard switch a .dvsData folder will get created by on the same datastore on which the virtual machine resides.
