dropped packets on vmxnet3 vsish

I am getting a lof of dropped packets on some vms when pinging them.

they are all using vmxnet3

but some vms are not losing pings on the same host. I isolated the nics and both nics on the vswitch are showing same symptoms

I did a vsish command and noticed rcsummary shopwing droppedRX

but not droppedtx

I went into the guiestos and pinged the gateway but no dropped pings

any idea?

Actually, packet drop is different with packet loss. Sometimes, operating system or hypervisor or physical layer (NIC) dropping packets because the packets are broadcast, multicast or anything else which were not related to them. Check the packet errors.

Start by checking the switch port settings on all the nics and make sure they are all the same.

then i would consider swapping cables.

you could also remove those nics from the VSwitch to validate you see the packet loss go away.
