double character typing

I have ESXI 6.5. I am experiencing the double character issue.

I have tried the following changes

Repeated characters when typing in Vmware remote console

VMware Knowledge Base

Repeated characters when typing in remote console (196)

Repeated characters when typing in your VMs remote console?

I have tried to edit the vmx file directly in the web console as well as download, editing and uploading the file. When I try to save the changes using the web the changes won't save.

The VM in question is a Windows 8 VM.

Is there any kind of other esxi/vsphere client that may allow me to do this? I am on a Mac so I was using an alternative to Notepad++ (I used Atom as well as Visual Studio Code).

Attached is screenshot of change made via Notepad++

I also encountered a similar problem. I could not enter the correct password because of duplicate characters. In the Web console.

Therefore, I launched Remote Console. There, the characters are entered normally. In addition, it is more convenient.

The screenshot you attached shows that the win8.vmx was not found.

Failed to power on virtual machine win8. File /vmfs/volumes/5abbd883-3c9b320d-8091-d89ef33c9e6f/win8/win8.vmx

So check whether the win8.vmx does indeed still existing in the datastore where the VM is registered. If you had indeed lost the vmx configuration file (and that you have no other working backup copy), you can rebuild the vmx configuration from vmware.log files from previous successful power up of the VM.

Instead of using download vmx and edit using text editor such as Notepad++, you can also use the host UI client. Edit Settings of the VM, Options tab - Configuration Parameters - Edit Configuration
