Attempt to run vm-support diagnosis for an ESXi 4.0 U1 host failed to complete, and in one instance the console session hung at the following step
Copying "/var/tmp/esxcfg-dumppart.11261731.txt" to output directory
Running command: "/usr/sbin/esxcfg-info -a"
This was also the last action in "vm-support-logging.txt" when used in debug logging mode
VERBOSE=1 vm-support > vm-support-logging.txt
Precaution is given to insufficient space where output redirection sent the output to the partition that had some free 7Gbytes
vm-support –w /tmp/diag
but the vm-support task stalled at the same step "/usr/sbin/esxcfg-info -a" for more than 1 hour.
This host is having some 4 or 5 guest VMs, and it is speculated if running sm-support in host maintenance mode might work.
