datastores not attached to all hosts

Firstly I am new to Vmware and clustering, but can anyone help me quantify the risk in the following. As I work in a risk department I get copied into "healthcheck" reports around how our main technologies are setup. One of the reports had a big red exlamation mark around one of our datastores was not connected to every host in the cluster. Looking at it the vm's on that datastore seem to relate to the veeam sofware. Does that make any sense given this situation?

As I say I dont work in the vmware team i just wanted a bit of a beginners guide to how big of a risk this is and the likelehood of that risk happening. its not a huge infrastructure, there is 1 cluster, 8 datastores, and 55 VM's. Please keep your answers quite jargon and technical free if at all possible.

In a cluster, all datastores (VMFS, not NFS) should be connected automatically. I'm not sure I could point you into the direction of a beginners guide, but I'm happy to answer any further questions you have.

Hope this helps,

Hi cb122, could you please provide more information about your infrastructure (about this datastore)? In this case the community will be able to provide the best advice.

OR you can create a new thread on Veeam Community Forums focused on Veeam software. There are tons of information about Veeam Backup & Replication.

My 2 cents: in this situation you aren't able to use vMotion, HA and other nice features from VMware for these VMs for all hosts.

Is this datastore called like “VeeamBackup_” or something similar? If so, this is a vPower NFS datastore created within Veeam backup server and used during Instant VM Recovery, SureBackup and similar activities, when VMs are started directly from highly-compressed and deduplicated backup files.

Thanks.
