datacenter name

hi,

i was looking at my datastores though the web insterface off of the https website that is hosted on the esxi 4.1 update 1 (where you download the vi client) and noted that datacenter name was not to my liking how do i change that name?

Troy's response is the correct one.  I was mistaken in that when you said Datacenter, I thought vCenter.

Hello.

Once you get logged in with the vSphere client, you can rename Datacenters by right-clicking on them and choosing the Rename option.

You should be able to just right-click on the Datacenter in VirtualCenter and select Rename.

where is the list of datacenters found in vi client?

After logging in, select the Hosts and Clusters item in Inventory.  Datacenters will be listed there.

I don't believe you can change the UI decription.  Or if you can, I have no idea how.  The name is the default, no matter what ESX(i) Host you log into

i don't see anything refering to datacenter in the vi client?

this has nothing to do with the vSphere Client.  When you log into the UI of an ESX(i) Host, as you did, the default name is what you see.  There is no way, that I know of, to change this.

thanks... they should fix that... as a stand alone test box it's fine i guess but i hit it 1 or 2 a year and drives me crazy a bit.

there is nothing from a managment standpoint, other than to download the vSphere Client, that you need to use the UI for.  Use the vSphere Client to do all your managment/administration.
