correct way to delete a datastore

I am looking to keep the LUN, but delete and recreate a datastore on a ESX 4 cluster.

Is it just a case of deleting the datastore from the vsphere client, then creating another datastore? How do all the hosts get updated, do I need to

-delete the datastore

-rescan from each host

-create another datastore?

The reason for doing it is I need to increase the block size from VMFS 3.33 1MB to at least 4MB, to accommodate migrating VMs with RDMs of at least 400GB in size. This is a migration datastore.

Move all VMs from data store before deleting it or you will loose VMs.

Other process is correct.
