coping vm's to other location

Hi There,

At one of our vmware servers we have attached two datastores. 1 for the running vm's and 1 datastore as a backup on a other location.

The backup I make by hand with a copy command on the prompt from the server. This works well but I have a small problem. The disk of the vm's are Thin Provisioned ( for example 6 GByte) but when I do a copy command tot the backup-datastore they get the equal size (40 GByte).

I use the cp command with the sparse function but this doesn't work.

Anybode any idea's?

You cp for all file exept the vmdk files.

For those you can use vmkfstools.
