convert VMDK or VMX (not sure which) to OVF file

Hi,

I downloaded Vmware-ovftool to my PC (windows7 64 bit) and I tried to run the utility but when I do I get an error message:

This is what I do:

"c:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\VMware OVF Tool\ovftool.exe" d:\ovf-test\Chat01\Chat01.vmx C:\Chat01.ovf

This is what I get:

Error: Failed to open file: d:\ovf-test\Chat01\Chat01.vmx

Completed with errors

any idea what am I doing wrong?

Thanks!

Dotan.

Is d:\ovf-test\Chat01\Chat01.vmx a valid path to a valid virtual machine? Is this VM sitting on the same system you are running the command from?

If using ESXi, you can also use the vSphere Client - go File -> Export -> Export OVF Template.

Hi,

I copied the VM folder from my "datastore" to my pc and tried to run the command on it.

Anyway the other option works great.

Many thanks!!
