connecting devices on multiple switches

Hi All

I'm struggling to get the following working, I'm sure this is something basic I'm missing but try as I might I can't get it working

I need to set up a lab for a couple of proxies

the layout is as follows

internet - vSwitch0 - proxy1 -vSwitch1- proxy2 - vSwitch2- client

in other words traffic from the client must go through proxy 2 and then proxy 1 to get to the internet (proxy chaining)

Only Switch0 has a physical NIC anything I connect to that gets internet access without any issue

The Client can ping Proxy2 but cannot ping proxy 1 or access the network

Proxy2 also can't ping proxy1 nor access the internet

all device are in the same subnet

client        192.168.1.206 255.255.255.0

proxy2     192.168.1.207 255.255.255.0

proxy1     192.168.1.208 255.255.255.0

default route is 192.168.1.1

I'm sure there is something basic that I'm missing here, any help greatly appreciated
