configure jumbo frame for ip san with 10G NIC and vpshere 5.0

hi all,

i would like to turn on jumbo frame for my vpshere 5.x primarily for my ip-san for now.  what i need to configure after i turned the jumbo frame on my switch and ip storage on my vpshere5.x?  all production are in dvswitch and no standard switch.  do i need to configured each vm right away to have jumbo frame or i can leave it for now.  i just want my ip-san connection fast and of course, vmotion.

i just found this documentation

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=100765...

what else i need to do?

thanks for any comment you may add.

Hi,

If you want to enable Jumbo frame on ESXi DVS ( virtual switch ) then you need to have jumbo frame enabled on  physical switch and storage adapter too if required. Basically on all the interface in path from ESXI host to storage array.

To enable jumbo frames you have to configure everything for an MTU of 9000 all the way from your hosts to your storage array.

configure the VMKernal port for an MTU of 9000

configure the DVSwitch for an MTU of 9000

switching and storage will also need the MTU set for 9000

That's it.
