cloning, space requirements on source

I have a datastore with a number of templates. I have been asked about free space requirements for cloning. If I am cloning from a source datastore to another target datastore, is there any space used up on the source datastore for hot clones, cold clones or templates?

hot clone takes a snapshot of the vm you are cloning (source).

cold clone shouldnt take any space at the source
