change location of Preferences.ini?

Hello,

I use a laptop and have the vsphere client version 5.5.0 build 1993072 installed on it.

Our VMware server is version 5.5.0 Build 2001466.

Issue I ran into: When I use the vsphere client on my laptop and 'open console' to any virtual machine I would receive the below error.

The VMRC console has disconnect.. attempting to reconnect.

However, I could use the vsphere client from the Windows vcenter server without issues.

Resolution:

There was a preferences.ini file in a folder called 'VMware' on my roaming profile network share.

It was in a locked state. 'preferences.ini.lck.

All I had to do was rename the vmware folder for it to create a new one and all was good.

Question:Can I change the location that the preferences.ini file is located to C:\users\VMware, etc.?

I am not sure what is even creating this file and if it is really needed.

Thank you for any help!

Preferences.ini

.encoding = "windows-1252"

hint.keyboardHook.hookTimeout = "FALSE"

hints.hideAll = "FALSE"
