Hello,
I have a trouble with booting up vm converted from Server 2 straight to ESXi 4. Used latest converter 4.0.1-1.
Previous 4.0 was not able to create ide controller.
After start, black screen with the cursor appears. No move
Details:
ESXi 4 installed on hp enterpise desktop dc7900 (core 2 duo, sata drive)
Disk Edit (VM on Server 2):
Adapter : IDE 0 Device: 0 (Hard DIsk 1)
Disk Edit (the same VM converted on ESX 4i) :
IDE (0:0) Hard disk 1
Say truth, I don't know why disk on source vm is IDE... But it is important VM and I would like to run it on ESXi 4.
Please help to make it work.
Thx.
Michael.
By default VM in VMware Server have a IDE virtual disk.
But on ESX(i) is better use a SCSI virtual disk (the only supported until vSphere).
You can try to maintain the same controller, but you can also change and Converter will reconfigure your OS (if supported) to match the new controller.

as stated, don't choose to preserve disk controller, but instead choose something different. You may have to start the conversion over if you can't simply change the SCSI controller byediting the VM's settings.
Thank you guys!
